Formed in 1926 by eight prominent Nashville, Indiana artists it has functioned as a Professional Artists Organization continuously ever since.

The Association is composed of between thirty and forty artist who use different media in their art works . This presents a variety of art expression for The Gallery visitors visual enjoyment.

The Association is independently run by an artist member Board of Directors. A Membership Committee reviews art works of Artists seeking to become Association Members. Those artists whose works are judged to be of high artistic caliber are voted on by Artist' Association's Membership Committee for consideration for " Fellowship Membership ".

After one year as a "Fellow", artists can be elected to " Full Artist Membership " by vote taken from a meeting of the entire group of Association " Full Artist Members. "

The Brown County Art Gallery Artist Association members pay monthly dues to their Professional Artists Association. The Association, in turn rents The Gallery building Great Hall from The Brown County Art Gallery Foundation, Inc. for the use of The Association Artists , who , display their art for sale to the public in the Great Hall as Individual Business Contractors.

While some " Art Prints " are available, the major artistic output by the Association Artists is hand made original art.

Extensive interior renovation of our Gallery building involved the installation of state of the art lighting which helps to bring out the vibrancy of all art presentations.

The Museum Rooms have recently been rehung with works from the Foundation’s Museum collection, and from the Glen Cooper Henshaw Memorial Trust.

Many Guest Art shows occur during the year and are displayed in other gallery rooms. These exhibits feature art works that tend to be of different media than the Contemporary art that is always to be seen in the Gallery Great Hall. All requests for Guest Art Shows will be considered. Ethnic and Cultural works of Art plus small works in Metal; Glass; Paper; Ceramic; Mixed Media; Pottery; ect. are all of interest for exhibit.
